Digby is Done!

Post by Paul Charland »

Hi All,

After four months and over 800 buildings, I'm finally finished Digby.

I've taken a few screenshots and I. hoping this works... Photobucket does not appear to be working and from what I've read.

Southbound Train 1 enters Digby at the at the north end of 1st Avenue.

The train is seen along the shore of the Annapolis Basin with the Digby wharf in the background.
3068.jpg
Train crosses Montague Row.
3069.jpg
Just before 1 PM each day Trains 1 and 2 meet in Digby.
3071.jpg
After a brief stop in Digby, Train 1 continues south crossing the south end of 1st Avenue.
3072.jpg
Train 26 crosses Victoria Street.
3073.jpg
8135 leaves it's train in the yard and heads to lift a car at Petrofina.
3074.jpg
The crew lifts an empty tankcar and heads back to the south end of Digby.

8135 crosses Sydney Street, in the background you can see Digby's War Memorial.

... to be continued... maximum of ten attachments.

After lifting another empty tankcar from Imperial Esso, the crew with return to the yard and lift an empty insulated boxcar from Atlantic Wholesalers before making up their train.

The tracks cross 1st Avenue then run along it for two blocks before crossing it again.

Train 26 crosses Montague Row while heading out of Digby.

Well done Paul. The views really have a Digby feel, especially the bits I know around the station. Congrats. Dan

Turned out well... anything along the DAR is worth doing properly.

That turned out to be a LOT of work. More than you probably originally thought I'm thinking but the results are terrific. Between all the bridges and structures getting there and Cornwallis to boot, you've done a spectacular job of extending the DAR this version and really capturing the feel of the Annapolis - Digby stretch!!

Hi Steve,

I actually hit this one on the head for timing. I put a beta out on the 27th of February that ended just outside Digby and said Digby would probably take four months... I finished it and put out the next beta on July 1st.

Just starting the bridge at Weymouth today. Most of this is already drawn in the form of the bridges at Bear River and Clementsport... just have to copy and paste things in the right order and build the curve portion.

Hi Steve,

I guess you missed my revised game plan from a few months ago! I've had the tracks laid for the Yarmouth Sub for a few months now. Yesterday I draw the bridge at Weymouth, today I have to divide it up into 13 or 14 parts and reassemble it in the sim... came out to be 19,835 polygons! After the Yarmouth Sub I will most likely do the Truro Sub to complete the DAR as it was in the mid-70s.

I really would like to model the M-107 and a few steam engines, and that would probably lead to creating an early 1940s Kingsport and Weston branch route just to "complete" the DAR.

I'm thrilled to hear it. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the bridges and Yarmouth!

You know we have some good resources for Yarmouth. Not so much for in between unfortunately. A very poorly photographed area of the DAR.

There's the Yarmouth railyard blueprints: http://www.dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?tit ... _Blueprint
among a lot of photos.

I just recently "found" the MP330s on the CP Tracks site too. These are full of folios for all locomotives. The 1945 will give you all the steam and the 1971 or 1972 will give you all diesel.

Hi Steve,

Yes, the only thing I have to go by for a lot of places is just going to the crossing in Google Earth and looking around, really helps that most of the small sto9ps are actually out of town. I did use the blueprint in the library for Yarmouth, plus the aerial shot from 1971 helped. I have nothing there aside from the track and one road.

Just finished placing the bridge in Weymouth this morning, had to divide it into 11 parts to get it into the sim.

Must have done something right, it can handle an RDC!

There is little traffic on the two branches so I was thinking if it was back during the war there would be at least the odd extra running to and from Aldershot. I also want to do a couple of locomotives in the "maroon" paint scheme... I sort of like it with the yellow lettering and herald. I know they were being repainted to place because of the war but I'm thinking that didn't happen on the first day of the war so there might be one or two that made it to 1940ish.
