Weymouth Water Tower
Weymouth Water Tower
Apart from being indicated in timetables that a water tower existed here, no documents to date have surfaced to describe the water tower here.
However, in perusing various photos we have located the tower finally. It was built across the river and bridge on the uphill grade westbound. It can be seen from the 1931 aerial view at the bottom centre of the photo.
Albert Melanson recalls[1] "On Sundays, we would walk across the bridge for something to do, past the water tower where we drank water from the spring, and then walked to where the tracks crossed Hwy #1." In an earlier email he also recalls that eastbound trains trying to stop for water on the grade when it was wet would often slip on the rails with the resulting screech being heard up and down the river valley.
