Kentville Ice House
Kentville Ice House
The DAR operated a "secondary icing facility" in Kentville to re-ice certain classes of refrigerated cars in season.[1] The first version was a one story wooden shed located on the south side of the "Back Road" spur behind the station.[2] It was replaced in 1925 by a larger structure, approximately 25 feet by 40 feet located on the north side of the Back Road Spur.[3] It was designed by the DAR Engineering Department differing from standard CPR ice houses as it was built of brick tile instead of wood and featured a concrete loading platform.[4]It was in use at least until 1958.[5] In the 1960s, it was converted into storage.
