Dominion Atlantic Railway Van No. 437210
According to Andrew Blackburn, 437210 and 436998 were damaged in an accident in the CN Truro yard in January 1981. The pair, along with four other wooden vans had come off the Truro Sub. and were en-route to CP in Saint John. Apparently, a CN switch engine had rolled away from the service area towards the yard by the High St. bridge. Andrew figures the string of vans were fouling the switch and two were damaged in a side-swipe as the diesel passed by on an adjacent track. The damaged pair were sent to the CN car shop to be repaired for transit. The other four cars were sent on to CP, and the damaged pair followed thereafter.
The location of the accident is referred to as "the Dardanelles." A CN car control manual lists track no. 28.
In 1980, CP started sending steel vans to the DAR. This group of six vans were the last wooden vans used on the DAR.
