Dominion Atlantic Railway Steam Locomotive No. 545 "Howe"

Built by Sashsische Maschinenbau A.G., Chemnitz, Germany (Saxon Locomotive Machine Works) in November 1903.

- CPR Class:
Built as CPR No. 545, it arrived on the DAR by 1929 and was given the name "Howe".[1] It left Kentville to be returned to the CPR's Angus Shops on Nov. 2, 1935.[2] and was scrapped in April 1937.[3]
Name Origin: Joseph Howe, visionary Nova Scotian political leader who won responsible government.[4]

- No. 545 'Howe' from Ingenium Archives, Aubrey Mattingly Transportation Collection, MAT-03599. The museum identifies this as locomotive 543 but this is likely a misreading of the front number. The indistinct name on the cab side is short, like 'Howe'. The museum also dates this as sometime in 1930, which is not the year of scrapping. The locomotive in the picture has no main rod attached but it may be lying on the running board above.
