This locomotive was built as Canadian Pacific Railway locomotive No. 943, renumbered as CPR No. 517 in 1908. It was transferred to the DAR in June 1923 and became DAR No. 43, "Byng" - named after Canada's Governor General at the time. By 1933 it had been renamed "Nicholson". It was scrapped in May 1940.

Name Origins:

• Viscount Byng of Vimy, Governor General of Canada 1920-1926
• Col. Francis Nicholson, leader of the British expedition which captured Acadia in 1710 and later Governor of Nova Scotia, the same name later used by DAR No. 555.
