1897-LANDOFEVANGELINE
The Land Of Evangeline 1897 Photo Booklet/Brochure
Dominion Atlantic Photo Brochure from 1897. A photo essay of Nova Scotia from Digby to Halifax. A unique look at Nova Scotia at the turn of the 20th century. The DAR was only conceived in 1894 and this is one of the earliest promotional items the DAR had.
The copyright on the inside cover reads: Copyright 1897, J. Murray Jordan, 1438 S. Penn Square, Philadelphia, PA. Although Jordan was a photographer, the Jordan Company was also a publisher of photographic promotional items such as postcards and photo brochures and so this copyright does not infer that Jordan was the photographer, but that the Jordan company was the publisher of this booklet.
According to the Kings County museum, A. L. Hardy likely is the photographer of this work[1] and it is likely that this book is the first promotional book the railway published. That being the case, then in all likelihood these photos would all predate 1894, the date of the formation of the DAR, but not be older than 1892, the year A. L. Hardy started his photographic business in Kentville.
