Pereau was the scene of a tragic level crossing accident on July 11, 1935. A speeding 1928 Pontiac with four people inside was hit by the Kentville-bound [[DAR0039|locomotive No. 39]] pulling [[Train No. 14]]. The crash was witnessed by James Lightfoot working at the [[British Canadian Fruit Association Pereau warehouses]]. Two died shortly after the accident while two others recovered from seriously injuries. The subsequent investigation blamed careless driving by the unlicensed driver. Pereau was the scene of a tragic level crossing accident on July 11, 1935. A speeding 1928 Pontiac with four people inside was hit by the Kentville-bound locomotive No. 39 pulling Train No. 14.
