Builder: Canada Foundry Company, Toronto
Builder's Number: C70
DAR number 850 was a large Bucyrus style steam-powered shovel or excavator. The long cab house the steam engine, coal supply and winches. The large booms and bucket swivelled independently from the front, supported by outrigger legs. The steam shovel often worked the Round Hill Ballast Pit[1] and the Oak Island Ballast Pit. Crew at the Oak Island pit were Reg MacGill and Walter Wood.[2]
