DAR merchandise

I was thinking that for a Memory Lane fundraiser, we could have novelty license plates and ball caps produced for DAR DPI members. I would like to use the classic DAR crest. To make this happen, I think we would need orders before going to production.

It does sound interesting. I wouldn't mind a DAR t-shirt with a large classic DAR logo on it.

Can't use vanity plates up here in NB as they require plates front and rear and I don't wear ball caps much.

These days, I don't think there's a limit to what you can put a logo on!

I'd go for T-Shirts and ball caps.

T-Shirts could be screen printed but I think the caps would have to be embroidered.

Sure would be nice to have a morning coffee with a DAR logo on the mug. Would probably be an easier sell at the museum and make them a few bucks.

All great ideas right from the start. The museum certainly does need some promotional items to sell.

I'm not concerned about reproduction rights as old photos that are in our collections are fair game but the DAR logo worries me a bit about reproducing. I would guess that CPR still holds the rights to the logos. This need to be investigated.

All said and done, a DAR logo on a coffee cup would be awesome.

Who prefers the original DAR Evangeline tender logo and who prefers the 30's Evageline logo that we use on the site?

For T-shirts and cups I'd like to do some series of locomotives, dayliners, passenger cars and vans eventually.

Colour is a difficult and expensive undertaking so at the start, simple B&W line art should be used to get the promotional items rolling at the lowest cost. LATER we can do colour if sales warrant.

I quickly did up my print of #32 (http://www.dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?tit ... R0032c.jpg) like we could visulaize using it on cups on t-shirts.

What do you think? Be honest.

Honestly, I would prefer something more unique or identifiable to the DAR. Most people would just see a steam engine.

I guess that means we'll have to figure how to use the DAR logos then. Any one know where to start on that one?

Which logo would you think is the best to start with? The first one (like the tender crest) or the second one like we use on the web site?

I'm partial to the tender crest. It is less cluttered and therefore more distinguisable at a distance. Have that as a logo on the front and maybe a line drawing of a steam loco, Middleton station (Older looks nicer in my eyes) or Kentville Station on the back. Or a system map. Maybe some shirts without something on the back for the less die hard folks

Kind of like the tender crest but instead of being a simple line drawing it could be more solid, like one of these:



The yellow would become maroon or black on the cup's beige background.

Good show Paul. Those logos look fairly clean and pretty staight. So tell us where you pulled those off!

Actually it doesn't matter. But being that the crest will measure approximately 2'' high on a cup, it would then require (300 DPI x 2 = 600 DPI) a 600 pixel high image. Now to do this for a t-shirt, I would think we need around an 8" front and centre crest which would require (300 DPI x 8 = 2400 DPI) a 2400 pixel high image of the crest.

Can your image file go that big for both a cup and a t-shirt?

Hi Steve,

I drew these in Corel a few years ago, would only take minutes to change them to any size and any color, just say when where and what color and I can send the file.

I would have to do one thing though, I need to change the fine lines around the face to curves so they enlarge proportionate with the rest of the drawing, that's two mouse click, nothing big.

Well Paul.. that's a great looking logo you drew there. Can I get a copy of your Corel file pretty please? I'n going to throw it into Illustrator so if you wouldn't mind, can you save it as an AI file for me?

You'll sure save me a pile of work because I'm nowhere near done the one I was working on. I going to need it for my D.A.R. MSTS repaints.

Can you crank out a full sized JPG for us.. the size we'll use to do the coffee cups? Like 600 pixels high by what ever?

What else should we put on the cup besides the logo?

Here's another version of the same herald without any background for a coffee cup. This could also be changed to yellow for printing on a maroon or black T-shirt or sweat shirt.



I have a little more work to do before this can be reduced to 2" in height, it's 25" high as you see it. Once I'm finished I'll sent you the Corel file Steve.

If the mug was to be two colors and not one, I too would like the maroon and yellow version. The logo that I was shooting for was the one used on the Caddie inspection car, hence the different font used on the "DOMINION ATLANTIC RAILWAY"... guess that would make dark blue T-shirts appropriate and probably more common then maroon to find.
