Questionable photo

Post by downeastrailfan »

I noticed this photo linked to the dpi is labeled Tupperville by the NS Museum: I'm quite sure its a Canadian Northern 3rd class station, the same as French Village and Lockeport. I think Port Wade also had a 3rd class station (saw a photo somewhere). I'm sure its not DAR, but might be on the H&SW.

I'd move this photo to the HSW DPI, clearly not the DAR.

Why is it the Archives keep moving their links around? Does anyone know the reason why?

That first photo is clearly not a DAR loco but might have been a W&AR engine. But where? It look like a Baldwin too.

It is frustrating but the Archives like other provincial websites has made several migration to new servers in the last few years which led them to re-organize their grouping of web pages each time. In the most recent migration they included a branding move from gov.ns.ca to novascotia.ca so all the addresses changed. Redirects are regarded as time consuming and complicated. Having been part of these behind the scenes discussions, external links to specific pages are seen as a bit of a nuisance (instead of a blessing!) The content folks at the archives have little say in this - it is always up to the "new departmental/the new provincial" standards.

We can now confirm that this photo is indeed on the H&SW and not DAR. I will notify the archives.

I'm not convinced that the location is Granville Ferry. It is only 12.5 miles from Granville Ferry to Port Wade, so perhaps the photographer/publisher got it wrong. We know Port Wade had a CNoR 3rd class station so I'm thinking that is the location. Granville Ferry was more likely to have a flag stop shelter or just a sign board.

I need to get my hands on primary source documentation. A CNoR or early CNR station list.
