Truro Sub MSTS/OR

Post by Paul Charland »

Hi,

I was hoping someone would have something nice like track charts or track diagrams they could post for the Truro Sub. I might be able to see tracks in the photos that are here but I'm sure I'd be missing a lot.

Any help would be appreciated.

I guess things have changed since you last saw their layout, it appears to now be a modular HO layout that has nothing to do with the DAR.

I have a floorplan for the Truro station, it is a blueprint that clear but not measured! I think I cam most likely measure a door, and then scale the rest of the drawing to get reasonable measurements.

What year would the Truro drawings be Andrew? Was the yard on the Hopewell Sub have been there back in the 40s or is this something that came along later?

The C-14 is the only track added in the 1960's for CN small express container traffic. All the other tracks were in place. Truro Station was kind of isolated between the Subdivisions Bedford, Springhill, and Hopewell. Trains still had to get permission from dispatcher in Montreal to pass Truro station into the late 1990's. There was blueprints of Truro station in Archives Canada . The DAR old track went directly to the Midland line with lots of crossovers along the CN main line. The DAR fishplates came into Truro as far as Dominion St. My father when young 1940's came into Town on the Saturday train from Kentville and arrived on the Old DAR track.

Thanks Andrew,

Is the wye just to the left of this drawing? Apparently the DAR leased two stalls of the CN roundhouse for putting their engines to bed overnight. I noticed in a shot from Windsor a steam passenger train heading south had the head end cars on the rear of the train. Am I to thing they turned the engines in Truro but not the train?

In the picture station upper right. Track circles down to lower right for Moncton. Switch lower right leads to yard east. Then track above roundhouse east Sydney west Halifax and Windsor. Asked father about train switching and CN shunter would switch cars for return to Windsor. Locomotives sent to roundhouse for service.

Thanks Andrew,

On the Nova Scotia Archives site there are a couple of really good shots of Truro back in the 30s including one great shot that shows the station and roundhouse areas. It's one of these shots that is only 900 pixels wide but you can zoom in and the real shot is about 3600 pixels wide. I went to page info and found the jpeg but it's only the 900 x shot. Usually there is a way to change the address and get the large version and download it but I couldn't figure it out.... does anyone know?

I have the line between Windsor and Truro marked and the terrain created, also the old route the DAR took before the causeway went in. It would be nice to find the track charts for the Truro Sub, I'd thing they would show just about everything I'd need to know for a 1940s route.

The 1969 annual report says the Irving and the Esso bulk fuel storage tanks were actually serviced by CN (using terminal trackage rights I would think).
