Figured I'd share this with you all, since it is quite a find!!
Friday, I was walking around in the woods near where the station at Meteghan Station used to be. I came across two pieces of metal lying face down on the ground, surrounded by dozens of rusty 40 year-old pop cans. At first glance, they just looked like any other piece of junk thrown down the side of the railway (you see a lot of that here in Clare). But as soon as I lifted one up and read 'RAILWAY', I knew I found something big. So yeah, it's one of the crossbucks from the Meteghan Station crossing!!
While this is quite an important artifact from the railroading days in Southwest Nova, I DO plan on holding onto it for as long as possible. I want it to remain within Clare at least, no matter what. Enjoy these pics!
At one time, I owned three sets of metal crossbucks, just like yours. I picked them up at an antique shop in eastern PEI. I sold them all, due to lack of space. The metal ones show up for sale from time to time. I've never seen a wooden set for sale.

Those are steel 3 piece beverage cans. See the tops are aluminum but the body and bottoms are made of steel and have rusted badly. Production of those steel 3 piece cans ended around 1982 when 2 piece aluminum cans came to Canada.
