Re: Imminent Museum Closure
Can't wait for your report after you meet with them Samuel and hopefully they can round up more local volunteers to help. Who do we contact now if we are able to contribute in any way to the Museum ?

Just click on the "Donate" on the menu bar at the top. That will get you to Memory Lane Donate page where you can select on the left the "Donate Monetary Gifts" that will allow you to donate by PayPal to the museum.

Middleton Station Railway Museum - Not Closing
Was up at the Middleton Station Railway Museum today and they are doing a good job of cleaning up the inside collection and getting things documented and recorded. Their plan is to be re-opened in May. I'm currently tasked with building a HO Scale Model layout of the Middleton Yard, station and other buildings serviced by the DAR. Another volunteer member is currently working on re-designing their outdoor garden railway.

That will be a nice project. The Middleton yard wasn't big but it was very interesting. Time frame? My favorite time frame is pre-ugly freight shed like this circa 1946 photo from the wiki:

Calkin's in Kentville was still in business in the mid-70s, still receiving material off the DAR team track to deliver.

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
They were thinking of doing the mid 1950's so then we they could do both Steam & Diesel with the RDC.
Just wondering is there any possibility that after the fire in 1915 they reused the lower part to build what's currently there?
Also when was the freight shed build?

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
I doubt it very much that anything at all was reused after the fire. The old station was huge compared to the current station that replaced it. It was the size of a hotel.
As for the freight shed, based on photos we have on the wiki we have we can only narrow it down to somewhere between 1946 and 1956. I sure wish we could find something that would nail that date down but so far no. Maybe some Spectator archives?

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
Just curious if there is anyway to find out how much the DARDPI group has donated this year to the museum. I was thinking it would be interesting to set an amount that the group might use as a target amount each year like United Way campaigns do. If we should exceed the target so much the better. If they new they could count on us for a minimum amount each year it might help them somewhat with their financial operating target. Please comment. Brian Lilly in Ottawa.

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
It's in the 500 to 1000 range for sure. Between the 3 websites and the following and support they bring, you gents deserve a round of applause for all you do.
Perhaps we should set a target for yearly donation to help keep the wheels greased. With 80 something users registered and at least a third are pretty regular in visiting, then if we're talking about even 20 donations of $100, that's a significant amount. Even at $50 it's still a big deal.
