Imminent Museum Closure
The board reports that closure of the museum is imminent (Oct 1) unless a new board (4 people) can be formed with people who are competent in matters of association funding and grants, tending to special needs individuals and running, promoting and maintaining a museum.
Who will step forward at the 11th hour to save the museum and Terry from certain closure?
This certainly is sad news that I hope has happy ending in the very near future.

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
So the latest I heard was that some folks have come forward, not as board members, but as people who are going to try and raise some funds through various activities to raise enough funds to keep the books balanced so that they have more time to come up with a plan for the survival of the museum.

Did the second coffee mug ever get produced as a fund raiser for them?

Yes I believe it did. Apparently it hasn't sold well this time or perhaps it hasn't sold many. Not sure which.

Did they just do a second run of the original mug we had made, they are only listing a maroon mug at $15... a bargain considering when the original from a couple of years ago were sold at $25.

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
I don't think they could sell enough cups at any price to support the museum and it's support program. What they really need is to get someone on board who can turn this into a provincial matter. By that I mean that the entire province needs to be made aware that losing this museum means losing one of the last places where the history of the DAR and ALL the communities it served are documented in photographs, memorabilia and documents. Someone with a high enough public profile might be able to make this a story that is newsworthy. There's nothing like free advertising via the media to get the ball rolling. Brian Lilly

And the good news is the community has responded. We now have an almost completely new board with much enthusiasm and a real commitment to keep Ron Johnson's vision and the museum alive and well.

That's great news. I will be making arrangements to donate at least $100 over the winter and I hope most of us can do the same. I think it would be a good idea to let them know that our donations come from the DARDPI group members.

I agree Brian. I think you can leave a note with the donation and that would be a fine place to make mention of it.

Re: Imminent Museum Closure
I've been in contact with some of the people who's helping get the museum back up and running. They have good plans and ideas to make it more attractive for people to come in and explore history of the DAR; and they have found the dpi very useful for information about the station.
I'll be meeting up with them hopefully next month to do some clean up work with them.
