I volunteered as well. The public response was much more than anticipated.

We had the Dartmouth model rr club, Lego trains, Operation Lifesaver, tours of the F40 cab with a driver, and trains rides.

There were 21 volunteers and VIA would like to double that number next year, so if you live local, keep it in mind.

I popped over from work at lunch (we worked the weekend at Pier 21 getting ready for tomorrow's reopening) and it was crazy busy. Great to see. Amazing what the word of mouth about "free train rides" will do! I'd be happy to help out net year, maybe run my DAR G scale trains.

Word form the wise if your planning on running your train keep a eye on it at all times, I had a mine set up and it ended up getting removed by little fingers and dissmaled for the remander of the day I was out on the train at the time. Next your I'll buy a cheap train set at Walmart so if it gets racked i wont care bemuse its not my good set.

In this Video you'll see me driving a hand cart I think that's what thay are called you don't see too many of them anymore not in working order its at the end of the video.

Nelson,

David Othen and I decided it would be best to dismantle your set and put it away. When I discovered what was happening, the kids had already pulled off trucks, couplers, and there were a lot of small parts laying around. Some of the parents thought that it was there for this purpose!

Young kids need much more robust trains, like a Brio set. I remember when I worked at a library, the Brio trains were very popular.
