After researching the error I am inclined to think that it's telling us there is not enough video memory. :(

Can you find anything that makes sense?

I'll pop up a copy on Elvas Tower and see what they say... most of the development team is there.

Hi Matt,

There was no reply the first time I posted the message but it would really help if I had your system specs to put in the message as well.

Off their website:

What hardware does OR require?

Processor : 2.0 GHz (32 or 64-bit)
Memory : minimum = 0.5 GB, recommended = 2 GB
Hard drive : 40 MB (but models require lots of space. The 6 routes in MSTS require 1.4 GB)
Graphics Hardware : minimum = 128 MB dedicated video RAM with Pixel Shader 2.0, recommended = 256 MB RAM with Pixel Shader 3.0
Graphics Software : as provided by Windows. OR currently uses DirectX® - version 9.0c
Sound : compatible with DirectX® - version 9.0c

I believe the problem is the video now that I see the specs. Darn.

OK, the DAR route and all the rolling stock were created and run fine on MSTS, is it possible to load that on the computer?

I created the DAR routes on a lame HP computer with a built in nVidia 6150L video card which was pretty weak, and in Windows XP, so you shouldn't have problems with a more modern laptop.

If you're just installing MSTS from scratch, install the two discs, then the 1.4 update, then New Roads and xTracks, and BIN 1.8something in that order.... then install the route and if you want to go further, install the rolling stock. The least you want to install is Steve's RDC and you would be able to run end to end just be setting a reasonable throttle setting and you could leave it running for about two and a half hours.

Hi Matt,

Might be quicker if you e-mailed me directly and I'll help you through it... the first thing you can do though is load the two CDs.

I can send you the three MSTS updates (really just one update but three parts, one for the game, one for tools, one for the SD-40-s). Can't find it in the library right now, I think someone changed the name.

Go to trainsim.com and search the library for:

New Roads 4.0:

newroads.zip

xTracks 3.20:

xtracks.zip

Go to http://mstsbin.uktrainsim.com/eng/eng.html At the bottom center of the page download version 1.8something.

I'd like to have signs or posters for the show. Is anyone interested in designing them and printing them? Business cards would be nice too. But I'd be happy with one poster for each of the dpi's.

Hi Matt,

I can design something for you, what do you want it to say. I'm about 950 miles to the left of the show so I probably can't deliver a print... but, if there is Staples or other computer type store handy, you would just need to take the file to them to get it printed in whatever size you want... I can draw up a business card for you as will... again, what information do you want it to say.

Paul :-)
