Donnie Foster, A DAR collector in the Annapolis Valley has uncovered an interesting forgotten bit of DAR insignia - the monograph for the DAR Kingsport branchline, the Cornwallis Valley Railway. Donnie's collection includes a frosted glass window which came from the Kentville Station. He noticed that, under the gold DAR letters, there was an odd pattern on the frosted glass:
I did a line drawing based on his rubbing which you can see here:
These intertwined letters create a monogram in the style of a royal cypher, a graphic which was all the rage in the 19th century. Here are few from a book of the time: http://www.lookandlearn.com/history-ima ... ool=phrase
Donnie thinks that this was the transom window above the CVR's ticket wicked in the Kentville Station when they shared the station with the WAR in their brief years of independent operation. It was later painted over with the DAR letters.
The WAR and DAR also had monograms. You can see them on the sides of the headlights in builders photos of some of their 4-4-0 locomotives.
Dan
Donnie did a rubbing of the image and realized that it is a monogram that combines the letters C, V and R. Connwallis Valley Railway monogram

Re: Connwallis Valley Railway monogram
Super neat! That's got to go on the wiki somewhere along with the DAR and W&AR monograms!
