Rare green pattern DAR 8" plate

Post by downeastrailfan »

As I understand it, the green lettered china is much rarer than the blue lettered china, which is reflected in the price: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RARE-OLD-DOMINIO ... 518&_uhb=1

I've been watching that, didn't even put a bid on it as when I first saw it, it was already over 125$CND now it's over 280$CND.

Hopefully someone we know is getting it!

SO the plate went for over 550CND$! It was an interesting item to watch on ebay.

Yes, the final price was quite shocking. I think the price was over inflated in a bidding war. It would be interesting to know its true market value, say, the selling price at an antique store.

Who can tell us more about this dinner plate? I know Andrew knows quite a bit about dinnerware.

As far as the collector this pattern with Evangline is the most diserable. Interestingly there are 4 different china patterns the DAR used in either the dining cars, steamships, or Hotel at the same time or used specifically in one these areas.
The Yarmouth Pattern blue in color has the crest of Cornwallis with DAR on top. One made specific for the Cornwallis Hotel. The 3rd pattern belonged to Canadian Pacific same design on top of the dishes but crested on the back Canadian Pacific Hotels. These dishes are usually marked with dates from the 1920 's.
The Evangline Route Pattern is like the old belt crest used on the Steamships. Likely the oldest pattern. There are 2 versions of this by different china makers.
Then the Evangline regular crest, likely made after the 1920's.
The Pines had their own china pattern along with The Lord Nelson. I have not seen any china marked foe the Lakeside in Yarmouth but it may be out there.
