Matt and Samuel's trip to Memory Lane
Sam and I spent a good portion of the day scanning prints, documents and articles today at the Memory Lane Museum. Stay tuned for lots of new material!
Additionally, we visited the Grand Pre log station, which is a cottage at Evangeline Beach. I tracked down cottage earlier this week, met the owner who was very welcoming and a train enthusiast. The cottage was sold earlier this year. So I went back today with Sam and we were able to photograph the exterior along with framed documents and the station blueprints.

While doing some updates of DAR employees found that the Manning family has Railway in their history. Though I'm not sure if Albert Manning Sr. Father worked for DAR or not but it mentions he was a Loco Engineer as well.
I'm wondering if we should add him to the list of Employees till we can say other wise. He could have worked for the Windsor and Annapolis Railway.

I'm guessing that Albert Sr. is the father of Albert "Shine" Manning, who was the conductor on DAR 9058 the day of the crash with the Burro Crane. "Shine" 's conductor uniform is on display at the museum, and Terry seems to have known him quite well.

I would prefer to wait until there's proof positive. We always want to provide accurate information that can be validated.
I'm quite looking forward to seeing what you collected on your field trip and I have to say thanks very much in advance for sharing it with all!
I added this later after I went to the wiki and realized that a lot of stuff has already been uploaded.
Just got to the photo on the Yarmouth station

and saw the comment "Thus, it appears that the brick station was situated approximately where the West Nova Oil tanks are located." and had to say that I don't agree with that.
Rather then looking at the bend in the road as the key to where the station was, I think the grade is much more likely the telling factor and based on that, Timmie's is right where the old brick station used to be and looking at:

even the old original station the Timmie's is modelled after was in the same location too; right at the bottom of the grade. Of course they turned the Timmie's 90 degrees.

Yes Albert Sr was Shines father, and his father was an Locomotive Engineer, and so was his Grandfather, though not sure who his grandfather worked for. Though on his death certificate it said Loco Engineer. Hope someone can help figure out if his Grandfather worked for W&AR and or DAR as that would be coolest bit of family history to have on the site!
Also we had founded some old photos for H&SWR so I emailed them to Matt to put up on the HSWDPI site. In total we might have gotten 85 scans done (~300MB) I'm going to try and upload some more to the site later in the week, though some photos we can't upload till Matt speaks to the owner who donated a copy of a picture.

Hi Steve: Regarding the location of the brick station in Yarmouth, I think that we are both thinking along the same lines. However, what I am saying is that the end of the building facing towards the east started at the point where the oil tanks are located, and then extended towards where the Tim's is currently located. Here's my rationale. A lot of the pictures that you see of the station showed a green house with a bow window in the background. Located almost beside this house is a garage or shed which appears to be part of this house. You can't see the house in the picture that I posted because of the trees, but the green garage with the red roof is visible, right behind Tim's. Now, have a look at the following picture: http://www.dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?tit ... outh_2.jpg . Here, you can see both the green house, and the shed. However, notice the distance from the far end of the station to the shed. There was a fairly large parking lot to the side of the station where the Acadian Lines buses would park. However, in the current picture, the Tim's appears quite close to the grass just below the shed. Therefore, I think that the brick station didn't quite reach the spot where the Tim's is located, but is located about where the Acadian Lines bus was parked. I agree with you about the grade of the hill, and I agree that the station almost reached the point where Tim's is now located.

The practicality of it Jim is that they probably built the new station immediately beside the old one as not to be without any station at all so I would suspect, until that time that a photo with both stations at the same time shows up, that the old station was probably where the Acadian bus is or even on the north side toward the old engine house. I think though more likely that it was south of the new station though.

Hi Steve: I've often wondered about the interim arrangements, and assumed that there had to have been some. However, as you said, there has never been a photo, to my knowledge, of the two of them together. However, have a look at this photo: http://www.dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?tit ... ehouse.jpg
The position of the engine house in the background indicates that the original station was either exactly where the brick station was built, or just to the east of it. I think that the engine house appears to be a little closer to the original station than it was to the brick station. Therefore, my guess is that the original station was beside the brick station, just to the east.

I think that these two aerial/plan views might indicate that the old station was north of the new station although there appears to be some overlap of the south section of the new over top of part of the old. Even though it looks like the new station is closer to the switch going to the enginehouse it is definitely much closer to the freight shed than the old station:

Update: I've uploaded a bunch more of the photo's that Matt & I scanned from earlier in the year to the wiki. Hopefully in the spring Matt & I can get back up there to scan their slides now that I've got a scanner that can do that any I know how to work it.
Also I've uploaded a scanned copy of my 1905 wall mount Schedule. I'm thinking of getting a print of it done and donating it to the Museum in the spring so that maybe they could mount it outside either on the station or put it onto a post and putting it near the entry way from the parking lot so people can read it on their way in as a way to feel that they are stepping back in time to catch the train.
