Apparently CN owns the Windsor Branch (Windsor Jct. to Windsor) and has not reached an agreement with Bob Schmidt.

Hopefully the tracks won't be removed, which would surely spell the end of the W&H.

Re: Windsor Branch for sale by CN
I fear this is the bitter end. My guess is CN does not want to sell it as it includes running rights over their main line into Halifax; something they wish to erradicate once and for all.

Please take a moment of your time and write a letter of support for the Windsor & Hantsport Railway to acquire the "Windsor Branch". CN's deadline is April 8th. Nova Scotia can't afford to loose another railway!

Re: Windsor Branch for sale by CN
I took a drive out to Windsor Junction last week, and was disappointed to find out that CN has removed the switch that joined the mainline to the DAR tracks, as well as the switch that joined the mainline to the wye at Mile 15.9. Thus, the DAR is now completely severed from the CN mainline and so I can only assume that the negotiations between CN and the Windsor and Hantsport railway are not going well.

Yeah I was up there too last week, though it was when it was raining but it was nice to see that at least they left the parts for the switch up on the line going to Windsor instead of just taking it all away. So one can only hope!

Re: Windsor Branch for sale by CN
Since I had figured you know that CN would be ripping up the line to Windsor I sent an inquiry about being able to get a rail crossing signal and a switch stand but apparently it's own by Windsor & Hantsport. Though I did reply back to the email further inquiring if this is something new as I was under the impression CN had own that section of the line.
"CN does not own the line from Windsor Jct to Windsor NS. This rail line belongs to the WHRC (Windsor & Hantsport Railway)" - CN Public Inquiries
Update so my reply inquiry for when WHRC took it over he said back in 1994. I replied to him with the news article about it being sold by CN and that I knew WHRC used the line. I have a feeling he doesn't know what CN actually owns.
Update 2: So I guess that guy at CN didn't know that it was really owned by them and hes going to do some more digging into my original inquiry. Guess the newspaper article helped!

Re: Windsor Branch for sale by CN
Just had a funny thought. Maybe not so funny?
You know how government(s) have privatized so many industries? The bottom line is electrical utility companies had to let competitive companies use their transmission lines, gas companies had to let competitive companies use their gas lines, the telephone companies had to let competitive companies use their telephone lines... what if the rail companies had to let competitive companies use their rail lines? We could have bought a single RDC and made CP and CN keep the DAR open AND maintain it just so we could operate.
