What if..

Post by downeastrailfan »

Let's say money was no object and you could comission an artist to paint a scene from the DAR. Who would be your artist and what would your scene be?

Here's my artist: http://www.davidaoram.com/

One of my photo choices. This is the toughest part, as there are so many good ones! http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... Bridge.jpg It would have a DAR lettered tender instead of CP.

The DAR has inspired a lot of art and I plan to put together an art section on the dpi.

Hi Matt:

Here's a start to your art collection: http://www.kentolmie.com/dayliner.html

I really like this picture. You don't see too much of the dayliner, but I like the setting with the light snow. As indicated, this was taken in Bridgetown, just east of the station between it and the bridge.

However, I agree with your choice of the train crossing the Bear River Bridge. It would be great to have a painting of that.

My choices for DAR art from what I consider are the some of the best composed photos we have on the wiki just to name a few (in no particular order) are :
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=File:DAR1040a.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=File:DAR1111a.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=File:DAR2617b.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... 8-2627.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... 7-3-54.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... _Train.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... Bridge.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... _Train.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... y_1977.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... _RDC_1.jpg
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... re_big.jpg

I personally like photos that have a great train component and a people component too. There are about half of them above though that even though there are no people in the scene it is striking enough to stand on it's own.

At Matt's request, I created a Category for art to get this kicked off. There were already a few images of art on the wiki so there's something there already to look at:

That's a great painting, Jim. I'm not familiar with the location. The artist also painted a CN RS-18 at Ocean Terminal in Halifax.

John MacIntosh took so many great photos, its tough to pick a favorite. I'd like to print and frame a few more. So far, I've only done this one: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... d_8-56.jpg
