Markers will not show up in Route Editor - problem resolved

Post by hecrowell »

Hopefully this post is in the right place - if not hopefully the moderator will oblige by shifting it accordingly..................................

For some reason, my route markers obtained from Google Earth .kml file and converted with Route_riter to .mkr file do not show up in MSTS Route Editor.
Here is what I am SURE of:

The route name is the same as the folder name in which it resides.
the .mkr file is named same as my route name.(by the way so is my .kml file and both files are in the proper route folder.)
The .mkr file contains the data for all of my placed markers.
The markers show up in DEMEX
Start tile has been selected in the MSTS Route Generator.
Markers DO NOT show up in the Route Editor.
I cannot get a checkmark to show by "Markers" in Route Editor (this makes me suspect that for some reason the route editor is not loading the marker file.)

I noted the lat and long of one of the markers in the kml file and tried to "jump" to that marker using route editor....no marker or markers show up

This is something that has happened recently because I had no trouble getting any markers to show up before.

I have removed completely and re-installed MSTS to no avail.

I am hoping that someone - somewhere can help me out.

********* IN REPLY TO AN OLD POST BY MYSELF **********
I thought I had better reply to this now that it is on my mind - otherwise, it might be forgotten

The "invisible" markers have been found.
During my finger poking, etc with Route Riter, I inadvertantly reset the the registry path to another location. This can be manipulated within Route Riter by clicking on the RailDriver/Registry tab. On that window, there are several clickable buttons which let you: 1. Read Original MSTS Registry Path, 2. Change MSTS Registry Path, 3. Read Current MSTS Registry Path, 4. Revert to Original Registry Settings as well as a few other clickable tool buttons.
Anyway, I am not sure of what the sequence of events was, or how I did it without being aware of it, but I did somehow change my MSTS Registry Path. The noticable result of this was I no longer could display my route markers that I had set up in Google Earth and checked and rechecked to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled all software including MSTS (I was in desparation) also all to no avail. Somehow, And purely by accident, I ran across this tab in Route Riter and fixed my problem.
Moral of the story: If all of a sudden, you cannot see your route markers in Route Editor, For Heaven's sake - Please check the registry path of your MSTS within Route Riter - before you do a whole lot of other detective work.

Hoping someone fonds this useful.
