Hi Everyone
Thought I would at least check in now that some of the smoke and dust has settled. I have been away from DARDPI much too long, but my absence does not mean it has been forgotten - by any means.
It has been a very hectic fall, beginning immediately after my return from Yarmouth. No need to go into details, but be assured, my absence was necessary because I simply could not find anyone to clone me - who in heck would want two or more of me around anyhow?
I have discovered some strange issues with the Route Editor (or at least an issue lying somewhere between Google Earth and the RE) because for whatever reason, ny route markers created in GE simply refuse to show in RE. I know they used to work because I have used them before, and yes - I know how to set them up so that they should work. Without my markers, I fail to see how I can lay down track. Once I get the website rebuilds completed that I am presently working on done, I am going to do a complete reformat and reload of everything. If that fails, I don't know what I will do so will be spending a lot of time here trying to get help. I really want to get rolling on the Yarmouth Subdivision which I believe runs from Yarmouth to Annapolis Royal.
So, until the next time, hope everyome is doing well and making headway on whatever project you are working on
Cheers

Did you check out the latest thing we did for MSTS? Inside the MSTS forum we added a file section. There's stuff there for Paul's DAR line or whatever you want to run it on!
Have you downloaded Paul's latest beta 2.7?
Maybe you can upload your buildings are structure as you create them. IT would be cool to have a whole package for the Yarmouth Yard for instance.

Hi Steve
No, I haven't done any of the above...Just getting back online after an exasperating reformat of my PC. Something at some point in time happened to the recovery partition of my HD and when I ran the Recovery CD, that's all it would do - kept telling me that all was OK and to remove CD so I could reboot into the User Partition - well unfortunately, there was none and I was stuck in a never-ending circle of system recovery. That's when I "borrowed" my son's WinXP cd - to get myself going again. Anyway, don't know what I will do now, hate to start all over again and would have to somehow find out how to get the ALC Open partition back up and running properly. I think its just a small sized partition onto which the System recovery app works.....will have to do some reading or call ALC to see exactly what I need to do. Right now as it stands, I cannot get any security updates with the OS that I am running - it's not mine.
I will work as quickly as possible to get it resolved then get MSTS back up and running.
Wish me luck
All the best

Re: Been away from DARDPI for too long
Computers can really leave you hooped can't they?
Backups are always such an important thing we all tend to forget about. I solved my backup problem for my PC, my Laptop and server and my wife's PC by purchasing one of those HP Media Servers that have Windows home server on it. Alternatively if one had an old PC they could try downloading the Windows Home Server demo and see if it works on the old PC before paying for it.
Windows Home Server can automatically back up any PC daily for you as well as providing network shares that can be used as drives for places to store things safely because with 2 or more disks installed on the home server, it always makes sure that files are duplicated twice, once on each disk.
If you've just got got the one PC those USB back drives are probably the cheapest and most straight forward solution to daily backups. One button, done.
Some food for though for the future after you get your partitions straightened out.
I hate to ask why you were running a recovery CD in the first place??? Never the less, did you lose your data on your hard drive or is that at least still all there?

Re: Been away from DARDPI for too long
hi Steve
Reason I was using a recovery CD on my PC was to get the OS (WinXP) back on. That was the software that was received when I purchased the PC. When I want to reformat and reload my OS, I simply insert the CD and reboot. The CD is called ALC Open Recovery CD Media and is for distribution with a New PC. I believe it is supplied from AOpen with Aopen boards which mine is - AX-45V with Lan. So - thats that story.
Other than that, one can load whatever OS he wants if he does not want to use the Recovery CD. It was handy because it loads my registered copy of the OS. I have been doing some reading about how it actually works, but haven't found out exactly what the principle is - I first thought it was via a special partition on the HD but now I don't think so.
Question answered?
