My interest in the Dominion Atlantic began with a series of article in TRAINS magazine titled 'Steam Safari' first published in 1954. The third article in the series followed editor David P Morgan and photographer Phillip Hastings as they crossed the Bay of Fundy on DAR's Princess Helene to Digby, NS. It appears their original plan was not to ride the length of the road, but editor Morgan became very seasick on the crossing and dreaded a return via the ship. This led to a rail trip from Digby to Halifax via DAR train 98. Although I have never been to Nova Scotia or saw the DAR in person, I found its small engines, wooden cars and neat operations very appealing.

While looking for pictures of the Denver and Rio Grande Western for various projects, I came across the wonderful pictures of the DAR taken by John MacIntosh and quickly began collecting them. I am not one to let pictures moulder in boxes and when Steve Meredith contacted me about using them on this site, I was pleased to contribute. In addition to these delightful color pictures, other DAR related items have also been posted. I hope you'll enjoy these views and will check back from time to time to see what's been added.
