From DARwiki

SS Evangeline (I) 1882-1903

Built by Churchill and Sons Shipyard, Hantsport in 1882.

  • 50 hp steam engine
  • Cargo capacity: 25 tons

This small coastal steamer carried freight and passengers. It was purchased in 1884 by the "Evangeline Navigational Company" owned by Capt. George Corbitt to connect the "Missing Link" from Annapolis Royal to Digby between the rival railways of the Windsor and Annapolis Railway and Western Counties Railway. After Annapolis Royal and Digby were finally connected by rail in 1891, Evangeline was bought by the Dominion Atlantic for its Minas Basin service, connecting the railway service at Kingsport with Parrsboro. Evangeline was replaced in 1904 by the SS Prince Albert.
