The MV Kipawo at Courtenay Bay in Saint John, NB, circa 1925[1] with the distinctive towers of the Wiggins Orphanage visible in the background.[2] This location, immediately next to the Saint John Shipyard as well as the clean, new look to the vessel and the profusion of flags, suggest the photo was taken during trials or the handover of the ship after its launch in 1925. The mainmast flag appears to be the Dominion Atlantic Railway's company flag.[3]

Other locations considered were Conception Bay, Newfoundland during WWII suggested by a possible Naval ensign on the mizzen-mast and the WWII British Naval System "Y" pennant on the fore-mast that indicates she is in Yard service as she was tending anti-submarine nets in the harbour.[4]

Note the crew on the poop deck just like in the other photo we have of the crew portrait. Note also, the Red Ensign off the rear mast and the DAR flag on the centre mast.
