Original Kodachrome Slide. Note: this slide has black tape across the top. CPR Digby, NS wharf, with lighthouse and freight cars, as seen from SS Princess Helene on August 19, 1959. Note bench beside lighthouse built for wharf employees to await incoming steamers. Wharf manager Charles McBride is seated on the bench at far right. The bell mounted on the roof of the shed came from the SS Empress and was used in thick fog to assist SS Princess Helene in approaching the wharf. A small extension on the wharf was added as a buffer to protect the pier end from "bumps" by approaching steamers.(1)
