MEASUREMENTS: 83 cm L x 9.8 cm W x 1.4 cm Thick Width is measured at the widest point on the end where thickness is 1.9 cm. Width is 3.8 cm and thickness is 1.4 cm in the central part between the two ends.
MARKS/LABEL: "1 5/18" is stamped below the wrench opening. This is the size of the nut that can be removed with this wrench. [Wiki editor - probably this is 1 5/16"]
NARRATIVE: This object was found in the spring of 2005 by the firm of Neill & Gunter Ltd., a Design & Consulting Engineer Co. working for the Town of Kentville to clean up the former Dominion Atlantic Railway (Canadian Pacific) lands located at the western end of the Town of Kentville. It is part of a large collection of artifacts unearthed near the railway roundhouse and was donated to the museum in the fall of 2005.
DESCRIPTION: Piece of pipe with 1 5/16 inch wrench attached to the end. End is bent (to improve leverage?).
HISTORY OF USE: Original owner of the Kentville Railway Roundhouse is Dominion Atlantic Railway (1894 to 1911). Canadian Pacific Railway was the owner after 1911.
This tool was likely used to tighten nuts on bolts used on a locomotive.
