Toronto Railway Museum

The Toronto Railway Museum is located in downtown Toronto occupying a portion of Canadian Pacific's John Street Roundhouse next to the CN Tower. The museum is operated by the Toronto Railway Historical Association. The Association was established in 2001 and opened the museum in 2010. The museum focuses on the history of railway industry in Toronto. It occupies three stalls of the roundhouse with displays that include a locomotive simulator and operates the roundhouse's massive 120 foot turntable as well as a popular miniature railway which crosses the Roundhouses Park surrounding the museum. The museum's collection includes the relocated Don Station, an interlocking tower and a significant rolling stock collection of locomotives, freight and passenger cars, including the Dominion Atlantic Railway's business car Nova Scotia. The Museum acquired the Nova Scotia in 2012. A restoration of the car is planned for the future as it has suffered significant alteration and decay after serving as part of a restaurant complex in Orillia Ontario. The final operating years of the car were spent in Toronto in the 1970s when it was owned by the Upper Canada Railway Society and ran excursions out of Union Station and the John Street Roundhouse. The Toronto Railway Museum would like to restore the car to its appearance in 1917 when as the DAR's buinsess car it played a significant role in the Halifax Explosion.
