MLW S-3
A Model of diesel locomotive by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) intended mainly for switching duties. The D.A.R. S-3s were built in the ALCO Montreal Locomotive Works facility in Montreal. They were the first diesel engines assigned to the DAR, a pair No. 6560 and 6561 arriving in 1956. The CPR specially equipped them for DAR road work with multiple unit control, heavier ballast, three chime horns, classification lamps and road switcher pilots. Both were lettered for the DAR, the only DAR lettered diesels. However the DAR found the S3s were under-powered for heavy gypsum trains even when worked in pairs (a issue the CPR also found with S3s elsewhere on their system) and they were later replaced by a feet of SW1200RS locomotives in 1959[1]
