Fieldwood Heritage Society

The Fieldwood Heritage Society was created as a society in 1989 to preserve and retell the history of Canning, Nova Scotia, and the surrounding area. The society looks after three buildings: a museum with artifacts, genealogical resources, and the Wilf Carter Room, (a building is shared with the Canning Library); a restored lighthouse and a circa 1852 house. The society takes its name from the schooner Fieldwood, built at Canning in 1920, the last large vessel built in Canning.[1] Leon Barron, a community DAR historian was a longtime member.
