Dominion Atlantic Railway Express Fruit Cars

The CPR built a fleet of 26 express fruit cars between 1899 and 1903. These were 60 foot wooden cars with roof and side vents known as "blower cars" designed to move easily perishable fruit such as berries. Many later had their roof ventilators removed and were converted to flat-topped baggage and express cars.(1) They were often seen in baggage and express service on the head end of DAR express trains in the 1940s and 50s.
