David Othen was a railfan, author, photographer, videographer & webmaster, amateur wine maker and retired business consultant from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Trains fascinated him since his childhood in the 1940s. He photographed trains and made videos across North America, Britain and Europe and worked as a volunteer on several tourism railways including the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad in New Brunswick. David was also the webmaster for the Nova Scotia Railway Heritage Society until 2007. [1] He passed away in September of 2016.[2]
David published several books illustrated with his photographs including the 2010 book Dominion Atlantic Railway The Final 25 Years which remains available onine.
All of David's Canadian slides are now in the care of the C. Robert Craig Memorial Library in Ottawa. His international slides and all of the videotapes are now part of the Middleton Railway Museum.
Use of Contributed Material
David gave the DARDPI wiki permission to use his photos and for individuals to enjoy them for their own personal study of the DAR and the C. Robert Craig Memorial Library has given the DARDPI permission to continue to use his images.
