The Nova Scotia Archives suggests 1870s, but the presence of the 1881 station indicates the early 1880s.

The handwriting of my grandmother Theresa Aylward, who was Sarah S, Smith who was the eldest daughter of Bennett Smith. G.V.S.
The Bennett Smith Shipyard. This may have been Taken in the 1870s. From evidence provided by the station in the foreground and the size of trees around the house. Bennett Smith is referred to as one of the greatest shipbuilders in Nova Scotia in a recent article in the Nova Scotia Magazine by Rear Admiral Pullen.
