The Evangeline Land: Illustrated in Halftone

This photographic booklet contains annotated half tone scenic photographs by A. L. Hardy showing Western Nova Scotian and the Annapolis Valley arranged along the route of the Dominion Atlantic from Yarmouth to Halifax. It presents a romantic rural landscape theme based on the legend and literature of the Acadians as depicted in Longfellow's poem Evangeline.

It is quite similar to the series of photographic booklets The Land Of Evangeline published by the Dominion Atlantc Railway which also used A. L. Hardy images. However The Evangeline Land was published and sold directly by A. L. Hardy.

His booklet does not contain a publication date but is believed to have been first published in 1902. It was published in several editions, with slightly different selections of images. It first came out about 1890. At least one additional edition was published about 1905 as it includes two images the 1904 expansion of the Kentville Station which are not present in other editions.

The Nova Scotia Legislative Library has a copy of the 1905 edition, call no. 917.1634H.
