Dominion Atlantic Railway Steam Locomotive No. 29 (1st), "Brooklyn" ~ 1905-1917?

Wheel Arrangement: 4-4-0

Built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in September 1874.

  • Builder No. 653
  • 17 x 24" cylinders
  • 68" drivers.

This was the first of two DAR locomotives to carry the number 29. It was built for the Grand Trunk Railway as No. 300 and was renumbered GTR No. 420 in 1896. It was acquired by the Midland Railway which ran from Windsor to Truro as Midland Railway No. 3 "Brooklyn". The DAR acquired the locomotive along with Midland No. 1, Midland No. 2, and Midland No. 4 when the Midland Line was purchased in 1905. This locomotive became DAR No. 29 but kept its Midland name as "Brooklyn". It was scrapped sometime before 1920, probably about 1917 when the 2nd No. 29 arrived on the DAR.

Name Origins: Brooklyn, a major stop on the Midland Railway.
