Yarmouth Station

History

187?? to 1948

The original Yarmouth station was an elaborately detailed Western Counties Railway wooden station, similar to the Weymouth Station and Digby Station. Note that in the photos below one can see the transition from a WCR station with it's unique adornments like the spires and the "webs" in the gables to a DAR station with the "webs" in the gables still in place but the WCR spires removed and a freight shed added to finally a DAR station with all the WCR adornments removed.

"Aug. 26, 1948, Dominion Atlantic Railway officially opened a new $50,000 station in Yarmouth that came complete with modern chrome and leather furnishings." (1)

The 1948 station was demolished in 1994. A partial replica of the original WCR wooden station was constructed for Tim Hortons and Wendys close to the original station site.
