This locomotive was built as Canadian Pacific Railway locomotive No. 928, renumbered as CPR No. 502 in 1908.(1) It was transferred to the DAR in June 1928 and became DAR No. 44, "Poutrincourt". In 1940, it was renumbered as No. 502 and scrapped in March 1946. See DAR No. 502 for details of later career.

Name Origins:

• Jean de Biencourt, Baron de Poutrincourt, second governor of Acadia (1610-1615), the same name retained when renumbered as DAR No. 502 and later used by another locomotive, DAR No. 518.

Dominion Atlantic Railway Steam Locomotive No. 44 (2nd) ~ 1942-1954

Built by Canadian Locomotive Works at Kingston, Ontario in June 1913.

• 21" x 26" cylinders
• 66" drivers
• Boiler Pressure: 190 psi
• Total Weight: 283,000 lbs
• 52' wheelbase length

The DAR's second locomotive No. 44 was built in 1913 for the Quebec Central Railway (another subsidiary of the CPR) as QCR No. 44. A sister to the second DAR No. 45, it was not a standard CPR ten wheeler but part of a special order built for the Quebec Central. No. 44 was transferred to the DAR in April of 1942 by one source(1) or 1943 by others and kept the same number to become DAR No. 44. It was scrapped in March 1954.
