Original Kodachrome Slide of the Digby Wharf taken from from the SS Princess Helene, Digby, NS. on August 19, 1959. Shown are the wharf lighthouse with a bench built for wharf employees to await incoming steamers. Wharf manager Charles McBride is seated on the bench at far right. The bell mounted on the roof of the shed came from the SS Empress and was used in thick fog to assist SS Princess Helene in approaching the wharf. A small extension on the wharf was added as a buffer to protect the pier end from "bumps" by approaching steamers.(1) In the background are the Digby Pines Hotel and Digby Gut.
