Bulk Fuel Depots
Unlike the western part of North America where houses are heated by natural gas, Nova Scotia homes require heating oil. Large scale distribution of other petrochemical products was only possible as well in the first part of the 20th century by rail. As a result, fuel depots sprang up in every major centre to distrubute the fuel shipped in by rail to their communities and even to today, although no longer served by rail, continue to be a fixture in communities.
