John A. Irvine (1868-1928) was born in Granville Ferry and worked as a bank manager, first at Annapolis Royal and then in 1887 in Halifax, before moving to Alberta in 1906. He was an enthusiastic amateur photographer, active in Nova Scotia from 1895 to 1905. His views of Halifax and several nearby communities (Fall River, Purcell Cove, Waverley), plus the area around Annapolis Royal (Bear River, Clementsport, Granville Ferry, Smiths Cove) include buildings, street-scapes, picnics and outdoor activities, railways, farm scenes and informal portraits. His work included several DAR images in the Digby and Annapolis Royal area.
