Original Ektachrome Slide, August 1, 1958, Quebec Central bunk car #40792, used by surveyors at Hantsport, NS. Slide No. 2
Jim O'Donnell in an email to Steve Meredith on December 13, 2008 reports this about Quebec Central 40742: "I had never seen a photo of it in QC lettering. I took a photo of it at Truro when the new station was being built in 1959. At that time it was lettered Canadian Pacific 405801, in B&B ("Bridges & Buildings") Service. You can see in the photo all they did was repaint a portion of the letterboard and the area where the numbers were, then relettered it. That car was always one of my favourites, probably because it was so unique. I later measured it and drew a diagram of it, and finally a model in O scale. It was scrapped at Kentville in 1977. Harold Jenkins sent me a photo of the trucks from it when it was scrapped. He said that was all that was left of it. It had the initials QC cast into the truck sideframes."
This slide unlike the Kodachrome John normally used turned horribly red with age. At the time of scanning this was the best colour restoration that could be done. In the future I may rescan and try again with newer techniques and software.
