A Professor Emeritus of Kinesiology at Acadia University in Wolfville.
Ness is the author of three popular and well illustrated volumes, Canadian Pacific's Dominion Atlantic Railway Vol. I & II and The Dominion Atlantic Railway: 1894-1994.
He is also known for his photographic work on the D.A.R. Ness helped preserve the Wolfville Station as a town library and donated the rare large-scale model of locomotive No. 32 "Blomidon" which can been seen at the library.
Gary has also preserved a large number of original prints and negatives from various DAR photographers in the Gary Ness Collection and shares these in his books and by making hand-printed photographic prints from negatives.
