Wheel Arrangement: 2-6-0

Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in April 1904.

  • Builder No. 24168

DAR No. 28, originally Midland Railway No. 4 "Pioneer", was the only 2-6-0 to serve on the Dominion Atlantic. The locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1904 for the Midland Railway which ran from Windsor to Truro. The DAR acquired the locomotive along with Midland No. 1 (DAR No. 31), Midland No. 2 (DAR No. 30), and Midland No. 3 (DAR No. 29 - 1st) when the Midland Line was purchased in 1905. It was sold to the Sissiboo Pulp & Paper Co. in Weymouth in 1921.(1)

Name Origins: Tribute to pioneers of the Midland district.
