Wheel Arrangement: 4-6-0

Built by Canadian Locomotive Works at Kingston, Ontario in June 1913.

  • Builder No. 1195

The DAR's second locomotive No. 44 was built in 1913 for the Quebec Central Railway (another subsidiary of the CPR) as QCR No. 44. A sister to the second DAR No. 45, it was not a standard CPR ten wheeler but part of a special order built for the Quebec Central. No. 44 was transferred to the DAR in April of 1942 by one source(1) or 1943 by others and kept the same number to become DAR No. 44. It was scrapped in March 1954.

Other Known Photographs:

  • Mattingly Collection, Canada Science ant Technology Museum, Ottawa, MAT000550 in Truro. This was likely taken early in No. 44's time on the DAR because the headlight is still high-mounted and the cab still has large windows. These were changed soon after it arrived on the DAR.
  • McQuinn Collection, Canada Science and Technology Museum, Ottawa, N-4023 in Truro April 30, 1949, N-4021 in Digby August 1953. Note in the 1953 view that the pilot has been considerably altered from the 1949 views.
