Kentville's coaling tower was built in December 1943 by Williams and Wilson of Montreal. A concrete tower, it held 60 tons of coal. Previously, locomotives in Kentville were coaled by crane and scoop. The Kentville Coaling tower was the only tower on the DAR. Small coaling facilities using buckets and scoops were found at Yarmouth, Windsor and Halifax. After the end of steam, the tower served as a base for security lights. It was finally demolished in 199x.
