Built by North British Locomotive Company at Glasgow. Scotland in November 1903.

• CPR Class:

No. 38 was built by the North British Locomotive Company in 1903 as CPR 981. It was renumbered 520 in 1908. It was transferred to the DAR in September 1917 and given the number 38 and name "Bear River". In May 1923, it was returned to the CPR as No. 520. It returned to the DAR by 1934 and was renamed "Champlain".(1) See DAR No. 520 for details of its later career. It is not certain when it was scrapped.

Name Origin: Bear River, picturesque stop on the DAR near Digby.
