Original Kodachrome Slide. Note: this slide has black tape across the top. CPR Digby, NS [[Digby Wharf|wharf]], with lighthouse and freight cars, as seen from [[SS Princess Helene]] on August 19, 1959. Note bench beside lighthouse built for wharf employees to await incoming steamers. Wharf manager [[McBride, Charles|Charles McBride]] is seated on the bench at far right. The bell mounted on the roof of the shed came from the [[SS Empress]] and was used in thick fog to assist [[SS Princess Helene]] in approaching the wharf. A small extension on the wharf was added as a buffer to protect the pier end from "bumps" by approaching steamers.(1)
