Photos August 2, 1944 wreck at Clementsport

Post by Dan Conlin »

I put some intriguing shots of a DAR passenger derailment at Clementsport on the DPI in 1944: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Clementsport

They come from Charles McBride's photo album. There are some good passenger car details in the shots, such as a great roof shot and the only photo I've ever seen of a full diner on the DAR, attached.

Anyone know anything about this wreck?

Very interesting to see a full dining car. It has the earlier pinstripe around the Canadian Pacific lettering. When would this have been used?

Matt and all. From what I have found out is 2 dining cars were deployed to the DAR in the late Second World War years. One being the Bear River and the other Blomidon. These cars were rebuilt in 1943 and 1944 from buffet observation cars. The traffic on the line at this time must have warranted the full diners. These cars were scrapped in 1956 so they likely did not spend much time on the DAR . Maybe a few years after the war. These were a 40 seat dining car.
